Nokia N8 headphone / voice command issue - please help!

Hi there - I cannot plug any headphones in my phone without the 'Speak now' voice command prompt coming up every few seconds - extremely frustrating in the gym as all my music is on it!
Have tried making sure the connector is in properly and cannot seem to actually turn the voice command system off (again hugely frustrating).
It used to be fine and has only recently started doing it - any help massively appreciated!
