I swear by it. The local (ish) abbatoir has a butchers next door (just off J20 M1). Price list is here:

£2.51 kg for a side of a pig. They butcher it as required without further charge.
I had had their meat/mince/sausages from the local farm shop for years so I knew they were good.
The only trouble is I end up with bags of neck in the freezer that I never use. That said I have never quite drummed up the courgae to buy 130lb of beef forequarter.
^Thanks, this is my local butcher too, i have just oredered a chest freezer so think i may be popping in to order some bulk meat:)0 -

Not sure where in Devon they are but these guys look good - I will hopefully be ordering a whole lamb when I get some space in the freezer

I must come back to this in future, I've never thought about buying meat in this way before but if it both saves money in the long term AND helps a local farmer I'll be looking to fill the chest freezerDebt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:
This time I'm on top of it! We live and learn :coffee:0 -

My butcher supplies half a lamb @ £7.35 per kg or a whole lamb @ £5.98 per kg.
Half a pig is £3.45 per kg.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
