Argos/Dyson

I purchased a dyson for my daughter on tuesday, i had to travel to a different store because our local 1 didnt' have it in stock.

My daughter rang yesterday and couldn't get the dyson to pick up, i've been and tried to use the dyson and the brushes are going round and all seems ok, but it's not picking up.

I've contacted the argos stor where i bought it from, and they said take it back to my store, i've called in today to see what they say, and have said that they will replace it. But they don't have another one in and there isn't anymore due in, because it was reduced to £179 and they have sold out, they said i could have another dyson, but had to put the difference to it, and the next one is about £50 dearer, which my daughter doesn't have.

I asked to see the manager but he wasn't it, so i'm going back tomorrow, i just want to replace the one i bought with another, we do not want to put any more money to buy another one.

So i want to know before i go in, are we entitled to a refund.

thanks

Yes you are entitled to a refund as the fault has been discovered within what would be referred to as a reasonable period.

If the item is faulty and they cant replace it then after such a short time you should be entitled to a refund.

You had a lucky escape to be honest. I worked for many years for a small household appliance repair shop and 90% of the vacuum cleaners that came in for repair were all models of Dyson.

Personally I would recommend a Henry, good old workhorse, all the builders use them, commercial cleaners, they last for years and years.

    Good luck.

    Thank you for those replies

I would have been more than happy with a exchange, but not got the cash to put to it.

I use a henry at work, but you know what kids are like they want a dyson.

    normally I wouldn't - but I'm gonna.

    Call Dyson.

Service wise they are astonishing - there is either likely to be a simple fix they can talk you through over the phone if its down to something not clipped in right, or they will book you a visit.

They are exceptionally efficient and quick - if you don't want to pay more and you want a Dyson then this is your only real option.

When i called them before Christmas the call from start to finish was 2 mins 34 seconds and the guy was on my doorstep 48hrs later - left 30 mins later after replacing a part free of charge as its a 5yr warranty.

Brilliant service can't fault them at all.
They will either sort it over the phone or send somebody out !!

I have a few issues with this statement.

Dysons (most) come with a 5 year parts & labor guarantee.
Dysons are considrably more expensive than bag based ones and people are more likely to fix a dyson than el cheapo bag based one.
    Dysons are also very popular.

My dyson is around 7-8 years old now and still works like new!

I suppose its just like any product....thousands can have no problems and then a handful will have problems.

Got one in the shed paid £15 for it. Seemed to lose suction randomly, Cleaned filters checked
all the pipes etc. Try again and it was usually OK.

Had it about 4 years now, Lost suction really badly, Stripped it all down and had a proper look
whilst putting it back together, The Round rubber seal where it pivots to lean the handle backwards
    was not properly seated.

Worked fine since, Sucks up sawdust, Compost, Cobwebs, Bugs and all sorts. If you see someone vac'ing the garden with a dyson its probably me :)

  • I have had two dysons, the first was a handmedown from my parents when I first moved out, so was a good age when it finally failed, and the current one is at least four years old and still going strong.
