Personally as a bloke Im useless at doing this and hate it. If I need furniture I will buy it 2nd hand already assembled or buy a mate a few pints for doing it.

When I had a removals company this was an add on service. 90% was high end furniture. For the very high end furniture £15000 plus for a bespoke book shelf :eek: that went around the whole room we would assist the cabinet/furniture maker in assembly onsite.

For the ikea argos stuff thats put up in minutes an extra £10 - £20 is fine if your already there getting paid to do a job.

Overall even though we were a busy removals company we did not get many customers asking for the assembly service. As a standalone business I personally do not think its viable.

As someone who's worked in Ikea assembling furniture a warning, if its a triple wardrobe with 2 sliding doors you are looking at 4 to 6 hours for assembly.Fair enough I was on my own but am a qualified joiner and could you make enough money, youd have to charge £80-100 and would people pay this.

I would pay somebody to do this, if it was reasonable. My hubby and I nearly end up killing each other because he can't read instructions and I boss him around :rotfl: He always manages to put something on the wrong way or not tight enough so it's forever wobbly or something like that.

I'd pay for somebody to go and collect it from Ikea/wherever too if it was cheaper than their delivery costs.

I'm surprised so many people say they wouldn't pay someone, after all when we replace our kitchens many people are doing just that. Many kitchen fitters are only fitting the kitchens that you've gone out and bought and had delivered to your house.

Whilst there’s logic in what you’re saying, the difference between a £60000 kitchen (just gone through receipts) and a £100 bit of furniture is dire!

No for most flat packs but for Kitchens ................Yes - fitting these requires a lot more effort and more skill, you also need to be able to fit the worktops as well.

Many advertise locally where I live, try a google search they seem to crop up everywhere.

Many people, i'd say probably the majority of people who replace their kitchens go to the likes of Ikea; B&q; or Wickes, you've only got to read past threads here when people have asked for advice as to which are the best.
I got my kitchen from Ikea, the guy who fitted it was a family friend but he was a self-employed and he'd worked under contract to most of the big Diy outlets.
On a smaller scale the Op may be thinking about doing only the odd units but i'm sure there's a market out there for an 'odd-job-man. There's been a long thread on here about the guy who is turning his hand to anything and seems to be making a living.
Unfortunately the way the jobs market is going i think more and more are going to be looking for that niche in the market.

We needed work doing to walls, ceilings and the floor before anything could be installed, which was why it worked out so expensive.

I had a Portuguese odd-job man who is a friend of mine (I’m Business Director as one of my responsibilities as a cllr) who I was paying £80/day, then £250/day for 2 men to fit the kitchen. This was done within 3 weeks.

I’ve got an old house that was empty for a number of years, which is why that was so expensive!
