Mirosoft S E Scanning time

Well my newish Laptop has taken 4 hours, and is still scanning, when my older comp only takes 25 mins, full scan?. surely something is not right? TA

If the laptop is newish then I assume you're on Windows 7???? SE usually does it quicker than this. Stop the scan, reboot the computer, go to Control Panel and check that Defender has been disabled. If not then disable it and run the SE scan again. If it still hangs then uninstall it and reinstall and see if that solves the problem. Alternatively, download Avast free version - very popular with many contributors on this website - I use it myself too!

Yes Win 7 both, defender is off,uninstalled & reinstalled MSE, still the same.
Yes I know i can use Avast or AVG, but why the difference between the 2 computers?. PS it dosent "Hang" its running all the time.

How much "stuff" do you have on your laptop compared to your older computer that only takes 25 minutes to scan?

You don't have anything running in the background or using your laptop while you are scanning?

If you have CCleaner run that first to clean any crud up before running a scan.

If that doesn't help run a quick scan with Malwarebytes, if Malwarebytes finds anything remove the nasties and then post the log file.
