need to sell car urgently
I need to sell my car urgently, because I am moving abroad early next month. I checked the valuation of the car in "whatcar.com" and called up some dealers, but their quote is much less than the price shown on the website. their quote is £1500 less than the price shown on the site. I advertised the car on Gumtree and AutoTrader as well. the car is in very good condition. it is 2008 Vauxhall Vectra 5dr hatchback and the mileage is 24K and I am selling it for £5500. is there anyway I can get a better price somewhere else? Thanks in advance

Dealers will always quote you less as they need to sell it for a profit. The likes of WeBuyAnyCar.con will give you a nice looking quote, then when you turn up with the car will find a whole bunch of excuses to knock the price down.
Only way to get chose to the book valuation is a private sale and deal with all the hassle of tyre kickers, test pilots, teenagers who can't get insured on it and other assorted idiocy.0 -
Two options
webuyanycar or private ( which might be faster or longer ) , But you could shorten the time by making sure the car inside and outside and clean , all paper work present, and reasonably priced.I owe £3233 @ 0%0 -
auction house, they will assist on a valueation and fixed reserve and busy nights, ofcourse commision etc to come of for sale of it.0

You could just put it on ebay with a start price of £5000 ie not top price and see how it goes if you are really desperate put it on to end at the weekend. Ive been buying a car this week and there were plenty decent cars being sold that way.
Or with a lower start or price higher reserve or try it out this weekend and then adjust for next weekend.
Could a friend not do it for you?0 -
book price maybe £5500 but a dealer won't pay anywhere near that as they need a mark up, Webuyanycar need a mark up and an auction house will probably go for less too as dealers there will want a mark up.
You won't get top price unless you sell it privately. As others have suggested start it on ebay under 5k and see how it goes or list at £5500 with best offer. If you want a quick sale you'll need to shave atleast 1k of book price and accepted 1.5k less than book price.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Auctions if you want shut quick. The only thing with having to sell a car quickly is you have to accept you're going to get kicked in the nuts with the price it fetches.0

Traders on ebay have them listed for under £5000 so getting £5500 from a dealer is not on the cards.
Several under £4000. So it depends what model you have and its condition.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
if you want shot your going to have to get to three places ebay, auction or sell to dealer, either case book price is £5500 highend your not going to get anywhere near unless private sale through ebay pistoneheads etc. thinking about auction last time i went was summer last year and the 03-05 yr vectra's were genrally selling at around £2900 £4200 with 60k or there abouts.
granted yours have lower than average mileage this maybe a concern to some people as to why its so low, sunday car? in the garage more than on the road kind of train of thought it does with me.0 -

Honest John harps on about sure-sell so worth a shot.
If it is not selling then it is too expensive and from what you say time is your enemy.
Either try sure-sell or knock a £1k off to start.
Your decision is time or money.0
