please could people advise me on my rights with the xbox 360 console. When i bought it 7 months ago it was ok now it is making a very strange noise when i turn it off. After watching a program on tv about consumer goods the xbox 360 was one of the goods which was disscused in not a good light. Do you think i am within my right to take the 360 back and ask for a refund as peoples 360's seem to be bracking down just after the guarentee has run out due to hardware faults.

Take it back and get a replacement. The new one will have a 1 year warrenty with Microsoft.0

Yes as said take it back for replacement, but before you do write down the consoles serial number its on the back below the bar code, you will need this just inase you have to cancel the registered console that your giving back, as your gamertag and some other info is registered with the consoles serial number.
0800 587 1102 thats the number for XBox support, beware they are american and its sometimes a little tricky to understand what they are saying because they use different terminology.0 -
I've had a similar problem to you Kentred, and would only contact xbox support as a last measure. After some consumer advice, I was told that:
* When you purchased the console, you made a contract with the retailer, not the manufacturer.
* A 'reasonable' amount of time is allocated to refund/replace the console with the retailers. Usually, if an item breaks within 6 months of ownership, you are within your rights to assume that it was faulty when purchased.
* Therefore, after 7 months of ownership, you can assume that a £300 console should still be in good working order. If it is not, then you should approach the retailer for a refund/replacment.
I got my advice from a goverment site called consumer direct (google it). Obviously each case is different so if I were you I'd get in touch with them yourself. But I would really try and contact the retailer before xbox support. As long as the console isn't showing signs of it being dropped, drowned in coke etc.. they should be happy to help you...0 -
Try taking it back to the retailer - that way you might get a new console as a replacement. Microsoft have been sending customers "refurbished" consoles which are breaking down within hours of being received as a replacement console.0

When I send my 360 off to microsoft I got a new one back.0 -
O remember the rule of 3, this means that if you send a 360 into microsoft to get fix, microsoft will give you a game or two.0
