Memory stick - lost data?

Oh help - I think some data has been deleted in error....and I can't find a backup for it..... it was kept on a memory stick as used by several people.
Before panicking totally, is there any way to recover deleted data on it?
What I think has happened is that documents within folders were deleted, but then instead of that folder being deleted a different one was, which of course had data in that is needed.
It can all be rebuilt, but we'd prefer not to have to do that!

Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.
