Cost of carpetting a hallway

I know its impossible to get a near figure due to everyone having different size hallways, but wondering if anyone has carpetted lately and could give me a figure so i could atleast guesstimate what i am working with. Have had to floor a whole house in the last 2 months and only thing i have left to do is downstairs hallway, 14 stairs and a medium size upstairs landing, there are 4 doors coming off downstairs and 4 doors upstairs landing if that helps.

I dont want to waste the carpet shops time by coming out measuring then finding out i cant afford it just now.. And i think i heard someone saying before that it costs quite alot to do what i need.
So anyone had theres done lately and how much did it cost ?

Thanks

you could measure the top area and the stairs and just go to carpet shops with these measurements in hand
they will work out for you how much you need and give a price.
only thing i found was a vast difference if they use one whole piece of carpet as opposed to smaller bits hope that makes sense
my top hallway jigs off to the left at the top of stairs so one piece of carpet
would have to be around 10 feet wide and a large offcut wasted
but its a smaller piece used and cut on the stair risers
you cant see the cut unless you look close
    and half the cost
was done years and years ago so cant remember cost:)

  • Just back from the carpet shop, took my sizes and they gave me a couple of quotes, £450 for a carpet that would last probably a good few years, and up to £750 for better carpet,
an extra £100 on top of that price should i need new underlay,
    prices above includes fitting :)
  • Mines a 3 bedroom too. Fitting was a fixed £50 and a cuppa price. The guy came out an measured it for us told us we would need 18m as he would use the off cut bit from the stairs to join ( hope that make sence) Im sure it was about £300 all in and apart from where my darling kitten have pulled it grr it looks very good still. Ive found I get a better service from small local complaies rather than the big national ones.

If I were you, I'd tell the wife I was getting bored with her and thinking of changing her!!

Might change her mind about the carpet then!

  • Spend a bit more on decent underlay and less on the carpet and search online once you know your measurements and grippers and underlay will be a lot cheaper (or get stiore to price match)

Thick crumb underlay works well on stairs and high traffic areas rather than thick waffle underlay IMO which will settle too much after time, but its personal preference. I prefer hard flooring in hallway (tiles/wood etc) as easier to get clean with muddy shoes etc
