Can I have a little advice please?

Morning to you all. I wonder if I could please have a little advice over my GCH system and running it. We live in a 3 bed with no cavity wall or loft insulation due to it being coverted but unused up there.
Ive 3 children one oh whom's a baby with special needs so I set the stat at 18 as I don't like to get her cold as that can make her condition worse.
So with the stat at 18 when I put it on first time in the day it will heat the house and then I hear it click off. Then half an hour later I hear it click on and warm the house back up to 18 (which takes about 15 mins) then it goes off again. Im thinking this must be using up loads of gas as its stopping at starting quite a number of times during the day. When it clicks off the house does cool quickly.
Would I be better to let it heat the house up then turn it totally off until its a real uncomfortable temp then manually put it on again?
All rads to have what I think are called valves on.
Many thanks

No. It sounds as if the roomstat is working well.

However to avoid nasty billing surprises get a handle on your consumption by taking daily meter readings for a week. 18 deg is not extravagent but if you are particularly concerned about cost try to keep the baby's room warm but the rest of the house as cool as is comfortable.

When it's off, you are no using any gas at all-so that's the cheaper option. That's what the room 'stat is doing when it clicks-telling the boiler to switch on or off. When the room 'stat is not calling for heat, the boiler is not on-so switching the boiler off won't reduce your consumption any further.
