Some Advice needed
We have seen the above kitchen at Howden’s and want a rough idea how much we would expect to pay for the following.
Approx. 11 Units with drawer type base units (about 5)
Bosch Washing machine
Bosch Oven
Bosch 5 burner Hob
Extractor Hood for 5 burner hob
Under wall unit lights
Removing old kitchen and fit new
Tiles Floor
Tile Wall
Build some small shelves where no suitable unit can fit.
Removed unneeded radiator
Decorate kitchen.
What sort of money are we looking at here.

Get a brochure or speak to one of their design consultants.
Unless someone here works at howdens or is willing to go through the brochure to price it up youll be waiting a while to get a figure.
Especially seeing as fitting costs can vary massively between retailers, and some dont do what you want doing.
At a very rough guide a cream gloss kitchen at b&q in cooke & lewis (b&qs best kitchen carcuss) would be about 5-7k fitted. Again thats very rough.
Howdens have free design services where they will be able to give you a total cost + install. Go and ask them, they will pressure you a bit but just say you need to think.
Also shop around, though howdens are normally one of the better kitchen companies (biggest in the country i think) you could get the companies price matching each other and youll find a lot of the kitchens are very similar (design & build)0 -
Thanks spadoosh,
5 -7k is that just for the kitchen. Would the applaiances be more?
I just some idea of what the kitchen, Fitiing etc is likely to cost

That'd be basic appliances probably not the ones your looking at and a basic fit. but like i says it varies soooo much.
Especially with fitting. When you order the kitchen ill be surprised if they have given you the full cost of the fit as theres always somthing that crops up.
Things like electrics make a big difference, ive known a few people having to have complete rewires so their kitchen can be fitted, obv plumbing is similar if you need wastes moving etc. Any of the kitchen retailers fitting costs will be v high but they normally give better guarantees, youll always find it cheaper in yellow pages to get it fitted but wethere or not you want to risk a tradesmen is up to you.
If you dont want to risk a cowboy fitting it get the company to fit it, then get a tradesmen to decorate (this should be quite a bit cheaper). Tiling is ridiculously expensive (considering how easy and not time consuming it is) thourhg the companies. e.g. i know B&Q charge about £40 for fitting a door threshold (which literally comprises of screwing 4 screws in and 1 cut!)
Like i say get a quote and install quote, bring it on here and well tear it apart. But please please please shop around. You might like the style of the kitchen but i know that wickes, homebase and B&Q all do Gloss cream finishes that are exactly the same to look at might be made slightly different though.0 -
Hi, I know the trauma of getting kitchen quotes and trying to decide if you are getting a fair deal - I've been doing this for the past couple of months now!
Personally, I have found Howdens to be a bit of a rip off. Howdens will not quote you directly - they are trade only and therefore you need to have a builder's details (who has an account with Howdens) before they will price your kitchen. The guy that came to look at my kitchen was okay, but he missed basic things (like checking the depth of a built in cupbaord that we wanted taking out which was shallower than the surrounding units, or asking where the stop tap was currently located). I asked for the quote to be on their Gloss Cream Integrated Handle and I was stunned when the price came back at £7k! (inc VAT) Comparing my quote to your list, I think we had a couple more units, but £7k is an awful lot for what we specified (WITHOUT installation) and I honestly think that they tried it on. I have a breakdown of all the costs; their breakdown shows the usual price, then a coloumn lists the discount they have given you per item with a revised unit price at the end. I don't want to be cynical, but having looked at some of the costs in detail i cannot believe that they would actually sell a magic corner unit for over a thousand pounds full price! (they tried to tell me they had given me something like a 70% discount to bring it down to £333!) Magnet trade did a similar quote and came in around £5k with VAT (much more realistic). I have now gone to an independent kitchen supplier in my local town and I have been really impressed with the service; the guy came out to the house, spent a lot of time looking at where bits and pieces were, got to understand what we were looking for and has provided a quote today for just over £7k, inc VAT, which is for bespoke units, rip out and disposal of old kitchen, installation of new inc electrical works, plastering and tiling.
My advice would be to seek out your local kitchen suppliers and try them first; more often than not they are run by people who have spent years fitting the kitchens in the first place so they know what they are looking for at the planning stage and will be able to advise a lot more readily. One other thing to make sure is that your electrics are up to 17th Ed regs, this is a legal requirement.
Hope this helps and best of luck!0
