Norton removal tool

Planning on removing Norton antivirus, paid version, using Norton removal tool, from a friends laptop. I'm assuming the removal will also remove the Norton back up which is taking up half of the hard drive. Laptop has approx 50GB of documents and pictures which I cannot back up elsewhere. Are there any issues with Norton removal tool and file deletion?.

I've used the Norton tool a couple of times and all files were left intact - but I made a back up first. Always good insurance if working on somebody else's machine!0

Hi,
Used Norton removal tool to rid hundreds of customer Laptops from that dreaded bit of software, because they did the stupid thing and purchased a Laptop from Pcworld/comet/dixons/currys who insist on it. That software will put years on your computer.
No problems with using it.0 -
Quick update . Norton removed succesfully. Computer was 100% full. Photos refused to open due to lack of space. Norton back up had filled 76gb on a 136gb hard drive!. Computer is now working well and is less than 1/2 full.0

It runs fine because it is happy to consume as many cpu cycles as it needs

When Peter sold out to Symantec then things went rapidly downhill, its improved in the past 12 months but is still an absolute hog.0 -
Many people will say that over the last two or three years, Norton has become less of a CPU hog than previously, and now is a very usable product.
But it's hard to shake off the awful reputation it used to have...0 -
Both of the above sentences are true of Norton. Many people will say that over the last two or three years, Norton has become less of a CPU hog than previously, and now is a very usable product.

As regards the removal tool, I have removed NIS a few times in order to try other suites/AV programs. I found that even after using the tool, there were still files and Registry entries left that needed removing manually.
However, I don't think there will be anything left over that will affect the incoming program after using the removal tool.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0
