Eon switching problems

Has anyone else had problems switching to Eon?
I went through a cashback site to switch to Eon, but having shown meter numbers that weren't even mine, they then said I was an exisiting customer; which I'm not.

RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Hmmm - This problem has the smell of a mix-up by the Central Agencies who maintain registers of where each meter is sited, if this is the case you will never be able to Switch until it's sorted out.
Look at the bills from your present supplier and check that the Meter No.printed on them, matches the number on the actual meters - If they don't get onto your present supplier0 -
Hi MissMoneypenny,
Thanks dogshome
It does sound like there may be a mix up here.
As dogshome says check the meter serial numbers on your bill against the serial numbers on your meter.
Then I would suggest giving us a call with your details just to double check all is ok to switch.
If you need any help from me just let me know.

Thanks both. Sorry for the delayed response.
The meter serial numbers on my bills, match the meters. I've never had a problem switching before.
I can't remember the last time I used Eon; probably a few years ago when I lived at another house in another area. Once I gave my name and bank details (which have remained the same) Eon online stated I was an exisiting customer, which I'm not and the meter numbers they gave didn't match my present house.RENTING? This is getting worse by the post.
You don't say who your present supplier is or how long you have been with them, but if Eon are convinced you are their customer, sooner or later they are going to send you bills.
Best bet is to WRITE to Eon and your current supplier asking that they confirm in writing as to wether or not you are their customer, if they both say yes, write again heading the letter Complaint enclosing to each a copy of the others letter0 -

Present supplier is Npower (about 6 months) and before that was Scottish Power (about 1 year).
As neither of Eon's gas and electric meter numbers match this house, I was wondering if they were one of those companies that kept customers details for years and they still had my bank details for a house I lived at years ago, in another part of the country? Only that house didn't have gas! When I moved from that house, I was with EDF.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? That is very likely. When I had changed suppliers several times and then came back to one of them, I found that I couldn't set up an online account as it said my email address was already registered. I have many email addresses and used another but I still could access my account from years before. All a bit worrying really considering they are supposed not to keep our details when not necessary.
It's very scarey. My email address is only a few years old, but my bank details are still the same as they were in 1990.
Having just checked my files, it seems that I have never used Eon at this address (which is why they have the wrong gas and electric meter numbers I assume). My previous house I lived in for 10 years and that didn't have gas; but the house I moved from in 1996 had gas and electric and I had the same bank account details then too, but a different surname.
I may have used Eon for electric only at the house without gas and that would have given them the link to my new surname with my old bank account?RENTING? All suppliers keep your records - they have to for 7 years, but it's unlikely that's the cause of your problem as the one key piece of information the whole system is built on is the meter Nos, and where they are located.
With Eon insisting you are their customer, it's vital you get this cleared up by WRITING to them, demanding they supply you with full details of this account - and just to help them realise something is 'orribly wrong, confirm to them your meter Nos.
Leaving n'power after only 6 months ?
On most of their tariffs they have a £100+ cash back after you have been with them a year and paid 12 consecutive monthly D/Debits, and, they weight the annual allocation of High Cost Kwh that make up your Service Charge, so that most of them are charged in the Winter months with fewer in Summer.
If you are on such a tariff it's possible a Switch at this moment in time to Eon or any other supplier will actually cost you money - Not save it0 -
I’m sorry that your attempts to switch to us are causing so much worry MissMoneypenny.
It’s highly unlikely that your name and bank details are what lead our website to believe we already supplied you. We could easily have another customer with the same name and people often have more than one account with us but pay their bills from the same bank account.
Helena was right in that contacting us is the best way to get to the bottom of this. The fact that the meter serial numbers on our site were incorrect show that we don’t supply you and it could be that the mix up is with the address.
If you’d like to send an email to the address on my profile page with your full address and more details as to what happened when the comparison site directed you to complete your sign up with us, I’ll be happy to help you.
