Reclaiming PPI on Barclays overdraft

I have bank statements going back to 1995 showing that I was paying PPI on my overdraft. I contacted Barclays back in 2007 and questioned the charges on my account and was able to cancel the PPI. I don't recall being told that it was optional when the overdraft was arranged and all the loans I've ever had with Barclays have been taken out without protection because I aalways declined it when asked if I wanted it. Is this enough evidence to prove this PPI has been mis-sold and if so would I be able to claim back to 1995 as I have the statements? Hope this all makes sense, many thanks in advance.

If you have statements going back that far, fill a questionnaire in and fire it off with copies of said statements stating your reason/reasons for believing you were mis sold. You cancelled it in 2007 but your statements back to 1995 will back up your case if you have a valid reason for believing you were mis sold. "I don't recall being told it was optional" may be a bit flimsy. Any correspondence from when you cancelled it in 2007 might help. Not knowing how it was sold to you makes it hard to comment but if you genuinely feel you were mis sold for any reason, complain

Many thanks Dilus, I've written off to Barclays for my signed agreement and T&Cs, but does anybody know whether they had pre-checked boxes back in the early 1990s for PPI?0

Sorry to jump on the band wagon; I called Barclays today who confirmed I had a PPI on my overdraft for roughly 15 years at £1.60 per Month, which I have never needed; I have been told by the cs advisor that my complaint will be resolved within 12 weeks. Is this confirmation it will be repaid as it seemed all too :eek:positive; Thanks Andy0

Hi there, surprisingly I found Barclays extremely helpful in resolving my PPI mis-sell complaint on my overdraft. I had been paying 34 per month (o/d of £4.2K) for years - daftly I thought this was a fee which I had agreed to when signing up for my overdraft facility "back in the day".
From memory, I had completed the overdraft request form on line but, as a premier account holder with a fee free overdraft of £250, the system had not allowed me to uncheck the "fee" box - and without it I would have been unable to proceed. I had tried (honest) !
Stubbornly for years I had been paying this but, after reading threads on here and asking a few questions, it transpired that I had a legitimate claim as it was not in fact a fee but a form of insurance, and was able to send the form in.
From start (phoning the insurance number in Dublin to determine the actual insurance start date) to finish (PPI refunded and deposited in my account) - the whole process took 8 weeks. Not quite as good as HBOS (6.5 weeks) but miles better than Tesco (22.5 weeks).
So, for anyone who has PPI on their overdraft facility and can recall instances of mis-selling when they applied, I would say go for it.0 -
I had a similar experience and was surprised they were so helpful.... I wait to see the outcome.0
