So the public don't trust bankers any more.
    Whose fault is that?

Ah the old "dirty great bankers" cliche.

Yes, I'm sure Sue the bank cashier on £7 an hour was to blame for the financial crisis.

Or was it Kevin, the banking adviser on £8 an hour?

TBH I don't think the poster was referring To people like Sue or Kevin! and other hard working people who serve us in the branches, I imagine it was more aimed at the likes of Fred Goodwin and other higher management bankers who gambled with customers savings. :)

I don't see why it's not possible for them to send you info on the choices with an invitation to come in and discuss if you wish.
Clearly getting you in to discuss is a sales technique. (one of my first jobs was selling insurance and we were taught a sales technique which worked nine times out of ten!).

Any comments please? If it turns out I have wasted half an hour + travel time can I send them a bill? I don't see how the conversation could have been any clearer - do you agree??

Whenever they try with me, my tactict is precise.
I simply say: dear sir, I am extremly busy and my time is money. Are you ready to pay me 50 pounds to leave my customers and come to see you?
No? Then please don't call again as I have paid work to do!

This is what normally happens, I have always had fixed rate savings with many different institutions, I usually receive a letter a few weeks before maturity offering a fresh 'deal' and listing all the options and an invitation to phone them for further details, this happens whether the account was opened in a branch or on-line. :)

It is, and invariably they do.

A good 50% plus of people prefer to do things face to face. Going in and talking to somebody opens up more doors to better savings rates than sitting at home and forgetting to post a form back.

Banks love it even more when customers forget to do anything at all.

OK what was it? you can't leave it at that :) I guess it must have been ' think of your family, kids, wife left destitute/poor house etc'
'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher
