cashing in cheque from previous name

Quick query i changed my first name by deed poll 3 years ago.

However, out of the blue i received a refund from an old Equitable life account. The cheque is in my old name.

Will my bank still cash this in or do i need to ask Equitable to reissue me a new cheque?

(note always had my current even under previous name so they should have history on account, that is is if they keep it)

thanks

3 years is a long time, the likelihood is they would want a cheque in the correct name, a few months would normally be ok. Some banks will have managerial discretion though and may take it, all you can do is ask :)

You can ask but I don't think the bank are very likely to take it. The difficulty then may be getting the cheque reissued in your new name, as presumably Equitable Life don't know that you changed it. I imagine you will need to contact them to ask what information you need to provide in order for them to accept that you have legally changed your name.
