Quote for new soffits, fascia, guttering - full replacement

I think I've been given a good quote but is it?

Quote is for £1,950

3 bed 14 year old detached house
New soffits, fascias', guttering, drain pipes
supplied in Wood grain effect
complete replacement of old wood boards and guttering.
clearing away rubbish.

They said no payment until 100% satisfied.

They seem good.
Any advice & input much appreciated.

    Seems sensible.

Anyone in the trade to answer this?

How big is your 3 bed detached house?

Does it have an attached or intergral garage?

It all depends on the total length of materials being used.

However, for an average sixed house, assuming they are using scaffolding, I would consider that reasonable

Thanks Hugo ... yes I think it is reasonable. garage is attached.

don't know if they use scaffolding.

But I've been given addresses for houses they've done a couple of streets away, so I'll take a look and if that's ok, book them.
  • We paid about the same a couple of years ago. Very happy with result. No complaints.

Firstly I am so glad you're having the full replacement boards and soffits!

Just make sure they use plenty of ventalation in the soffits. I use vented soffits boards where I can, which have a row of holes cut in all the way along their lengths. The insulation should be clear of these when the soffits are fitted.

These will work in conjunction with the vent tiles on the roof to provide natural ventilation in your roof space. You don't realize how important this is until you climb up into a lot space that is dripping with condensation!

On other point. They may find rotten purlins especially at the corners of the roof. There are a number of ways these are often dealt with by the contractor.

    1) leave as is and hope the fascia and soffit will sit around them - not advised
    2) provide a separate quote for repair
    3) repair it as part of the initial job.

Either 2 or 3 are OK IMO. I went for 2 on a job I did recently, the extent of the damage was such that the repairs could not be included in the original price. In addition I had to beef up the original timbers on one gable end to take the weight of the tiles closest to the gable end, the construction was very poor quality. This also helped to give me something solid to nail the fascias onto.

Before you commission these guys to do the work, ask them what their approach is to this problem. They must come accross it all the time. The likely areas to look out for this are at the corners at the sides of the gable ends.

    Good luck!
