Barclays card protection - is it ppi ?

Just picked up Mums barclaycard and noticed this card protection payment. Asked mum about it, she has no idea what it is and quite frankly, neither do I .
Is this payment protection insurance, or something else?
Can't find any docs at Mums, but she says she's been paying it for years, and it started out at £24 years ago.
Thanks
Dd

I have just noticed the same thing I will be calling them first thing in the morning. I really dont remember asking for any type of card protection when taking out when applying for the card.0

It sounds like the ID theft insurance which was provided by an outfit called CPP.

By all accounts it was widely mis-sold.

They stopped selling it soon after the FSA got involved.

Thanks so much for your help, alpine star. This is worrying that barclaycard have known about concerns refpgarding this for at least two years. My mother states that no one has ever called her regarding this insurance and that it is just added on every year automatically.
She is well in her 80's and I'm damn annoyed that they appear to have taken advantage of her. Is there anything to be done here? She thinks it's been added on for at least 5 years, perhaps longer.
