First MOT
My tax disc is up for renewal in February. The purchase of the vehicle was made in Sept 2009 and it only had 6 months. Since then it's been 12 month tax discs as it's cheaper than 6 each time.
THe renewal reminder states my vehicle will need an MOT from Sept 2012. But my tax disc runs from Feb 2012 - Feb 13. Do I need an MOT once it hits September or can I wait until February 2013 to take the vehicle in for it's first MOT just before the tax disc will expire?

Hi,
Assuming the vehicle was new then its september 2012/
The MOT is supposed to be all about safety not cost ( as per tax disc)
ANPR cameras can tell if you have no MOT ( an offence which I believe invalidates insurance policy)

In what way do you think that MOT's and a tax disc are related?0 -
thanks for the replies!
i was unsure whether it was bang on 3 years from the purchase date of the vehicle, whether the MOT needed to be done straight away or could it wait as it could have been done after the 3rd year and before the 4th year. i never really owned a car which didn't need a MOT. so between 01/09/2012 and 31/08/2013 i could get the MOT done anypoint as long as it didn't hit the 4th year. because it would be just 3 years old and whatever month it was. it's like asking a person how old they are. they've hit a certain age but even the day before their next birthday they class themselves as that age not the next.
previously, my tax disc was 12 months in sync with the due MOT (difference old vehicle). to get the tax disc you need a valid MOT and insurance and it was all around the same time when this was done.0
