Car with over 100k miles

Is it inherently a bad idea to buy a car (specifically VW Bora) with over 100k on the clock?

£750 if it makes a different.

I'm a non believer of cars on finance?

Not if it's been looked after.

Friend had a Bora, drank oil like nowt but ran fine.

Condition is more important than anything. That and has it had its belts etc done? You don't want it to go pop even if it is cheap otherwise its a £750 paperweight.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • As long as its been looked after serviced etc then it would be a decent buy.

Watch out if you have injectors, I heard from a friend that his mate had one and it cost £3k for a set of new injectors. You might be best buying some used ones on ebay from another bora being broken just in case.

15k a year for a decent top end car is quite normal nowadays, my audi TT is 10 years old and has 93k and drives like new.

It's not just a FSH: see where it's been serviced: if it's all VAG (VW/Audi Group) then thats good: see if the cambelt, water pump, anti roll bars and brakes have been done: has it ever had a new battery?
    What are the tyres like?
    It all adds up.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

    certainly does
    i would buy a ford:D
  • I Love the scaremongering on here, if the engine popped you could break for parts and scrap the shell of a modern vw like this for close to that price!!

my first car was a 1 litre vw polo petrol with 396.000 miles on the clock genuine mileage ran up by my granddad and then my dad then me. died when a mondeo with 56 miles on the clock lost all drive on m/way and moved over without looking straight into me.
  • its not bad at all, at 750 you hardly gonna suffer any depreciation. and if its been looked after it will be fine, if its a diesel then its just nicely worn in :)
