Credit Card PPI - The free for a month trick

Hello,
I am after some advice please? I have always tried to avoid PPI but do remember occasions (a good few years ago though) where I was contacted via phone by credit card companies and told of protection I can have free for one, maybe three months - then it costs just 3p (or maybe more) per pound, per month on outstanding balance to continue. A canny bit on a balance of £5000! I even remember saying to at least one caller that I didnt want the cover because I would forget to cancel it but then giving in, in the end. I was not one for checking my statements, as I tended to have a direct debit set up for a monthly minimum payment. I then of course realised I had been paying for protection I didnt want.
Can anyone advise please, on whether I may be able to claim these charges back and how I might confirm what I paid?
I realy dont like this way of selling, as I'm not very organised and always ending up paying for things I dont want. I did again just recently with mobile phone insurance and technical support - flip!!
Thank you,
David.

No you wouldn't. It was your choice to go ahead/not go ahead - if you really didn't want it you could have just said no.
And it was your responsibility to cancel it/not cancel it after the policy started.
All your responsibility I'm afraid so nothing to claim back.0
