photography on facebook

Hi

A friend used a photographer on FB to book family portraits. They were done at my friends house and the pics were crap. My friend has tried to contact her to discuss but she will not answer phone/email to her and need to know how i can trace her to a recorded business address or trace her address?

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks:T

If you post the name of the photography company or any other relevant information someone on here may be able to help.
  • Do they not have a website?
How did your friend find them ie. friend of a friend?
    How much did they pay?
Did they not see the standard of work the 'photographer' produced before hand?
I ask the last two because if the photos they saw are the same level of quality as what they got then they can't really complain and if they didn't pay much then the saying of 'pay peanuts, get monkey's' comes to mind.
I'm a photographer and I have a facebook page for my work (proper website as well) I have alot of photos on there so people know exactly the quality they will get. Unfortunately many people seem to be of the opinion that anyone with a camera phone can take photos and that professionals aren't worth spending decent money on - it's only when they pay some amateur cheapo rates and get rubbish in return that they realise their mistake.
I was recently under cut (about 50%) by a 'photographer' I know on a shoot - excuse by client was 'times are hard' in respect to money and a new child which I understand of course, but the whole point was they wanted professional shots of their baby and the person they're getting to do them claims to be a professional, but her lighting and editing are real shoddy. Better to pay £100 for really nice photos, than £50 for something your neighbour/brother/friend could have done for free.

Hi the person does had fab photos on her FB page and on her website but they nothing like the ones she took on the photo shoot.

  • I had a look at the website you posted, some are quite nice, some not so much, but that doesn't really matter - if the photos taken are not of comparable quality to what was shown (and what they were led to believe they would get) then I would say she should be offering a reshoot or return of the money.

If she's ignoring all contact then that suggests to me that she's aware her photos weren't up to scratch and is ashamed about the whole thing. Have they tried posting to her facebook page? Something like: 'Hi Just wondering if you got our emails? We're a bit disappointed with the photos you took, could you please get in contact with us.' Maybe the fact that other people will be able to read that will prompt her to react.

the 'photographer' has blocked my friend and all of her friends from seeing her facebook page so no one can comment on it. We have since found out she had scammed a few people for money also.

  • Hmm that's not good.
If it were me in that situation (and I recently was in a similar situation regarding a company that had taken money, not given the item and was ignoring contact). I'd email the contact on her website stating that if she does not rectify the situation then you feel you'll be left with no option but to warn people of her actions and report her 'failure to perform' (for want of a better term) to the relevant authorities (whoever they may be).
It might work, it might not - but a few well placed negative reviews on her business (remaining factual) will at least warn others away if nothing else.
Problem is that as a photographer she doesn't have to have a registered business, although she should certainly be registered as self employed for tax purposes - maybe you could do a little digging to find out if she is and if not then report her for that.
Someone else may come along with some better ideas though.

    I'd ask politely at :-

    The Works Studio
    Business Name: The Works Studio
Address 1: The Works Studio Ltd
    Address 2: White Hall Farm
    Postcode/Zip: PE19 6SS
    City: Croxton
    Region: Cambridgeshire
    Country: United Kingdom
    Phone: 07546063049
    Mobile: 447546063049
  • If your friend is willing to pay (I think it's about £2 each time), they will probably find the photographers home address here:
    http://www.192.com/

There is one Penny Adderley in Cambridge, so that would hopefully be the right person.

    Yeh, spotted the 192 entry.

She appears to be working at the above studio so I thought Id save them the £2 (although thats is why I said to ask politely) ;) Although knowing where they may work might be handy if its a legit complaint.
