You harp on about the 10 yr old & 12 yr old sharing a bed - any reason why Mum & daughter can't share and Dad & son? That's what we used to do when we went away as a family with teenage kids ... Mum & Dad are hardly going to be engaging in sexual activities with teenage/preteen kids in the room anyway are they?!

Obviously if you wnated interconnecting rooms, you should have made sure that was what you were booking ... you should not assume anything if you have specific requirements!
I am about to book a holiday and require TWIN not a DOUBLE bed - the friend I am travellingw ith & I do not wish to share a bed. I will double & triple check that the TWIN is requested AND listed on my booking ...

I understood the OP to say that the family room has one double and one sofa bed, for 2 adults & 2 nearly teenagers.

If they are anything like the sofa bed that apparently is sufficient for 2 children in Holiday Inns, they are totally unsuitable for a fully grown adult, or two teenagers. I've had trouble getting two children under 8 to sleep together in one sofa bed comfortably.
