British Gas

Hello

Having moved from a metered 1 Bedroom flat, I have recently received my first MONTHLY gas/electricity bill from BG and was horrified that it was £96 (£62 for Gas and £34 for electricity). There are just 2 of us in a 3 bedroom house but there are currently only 2 radiators in use. Hot water also runs off gas. I know the costs are constantly rising but is this normal??

It could be normal. How many hours do you use the heating? How long are your showers? Are these actual meter readings? What is the usage in kWh?

Who knows without you submitting the amount of energy that you have used, I have used 2717kwh of gas during January which cost £115.80
  • This is average consumption.

I live in a 4 bed house ( brand new so very well insulated), just 2 of us and our bill is about that per month. We are in all day though and heating comes on 3 times a day. Remember in the summer the gas element of the bill will fall dramatically so your monthly average over the year will be a lot less.

Thanks for the replies. Asking around friends and colleagues, it looks like it could be normal but would like to hear from those with similar houses/lifestyles:

We are at work all day. The heating is on for 1 hour in the morning and around 4 hours in the evening. At weekends, it is not generally on during the day. We did not have any heating up until 4 days before Christmas (!!) and currently only have 2 fitted and working radiators in a 3 bed Victorian house.

Shower is used on average 3 times a day for 5 – 10 minutes.

The meter readings are actual and submitted by myself.

    Usage for Gas - 1327kWh
Usage for Electricity – 163 kWh

    Many thanks

The other electricity/gas user is cooking - do you have a gas or electric cooker/oven/hob?
