Product Details: NETGEAR EN104 Ethernet Hub
Product Details Hub Type RJ-45
Data Transfer Rate 10 Mbps
System Type PC, Mac, Unix
Wireless No
Thats why it's connection at 10mbps. Try swapping the cables over and see if the xbox will connect.Nothing to see here, move along.0 -

Can you elaborate on that please
as I have no idea what that means, unless you mean it will only connect at 10mbps and the XBox wont connect at that speed

The port on the hub will only go at 10mbps so the port on you PC will slow down to suit. As for the xbox I would think it would switch down to 10mbps too. try swapping the cable you are using on the xbox over to the pc then you will know your cables are ok.Nothing to see here, move along.0

I think it maybe a cable, maybe im using a crossover instead of a straight cable, but 10mbps is slower than I wanted and may have an adverse affect with my gaming (lagging)0

Just had a look and from the XBox to the Hub/Modem (depends how I connect) is a 5e patch cable.0

CAT5e = Advanced Category 5 cabling.
It will do 100Mb (however, if its knackered / broken inside, you'll be gett a lot of "packet loss" which means a lot of what you are sending simply isnt making it to the other end of the cable
However your netgear will only do 10Mb. When you make a network connection, there are three speeds (To any pedants out there - Im simplyfying this for this example
)
1. 10Mb (Ethernet)
2. 100Mb (Fast Ethernet, but now commonly known as just "Ethernet")
3. 1Gb (Gigabit Ethernet)
The connection will automatically ruduce its speed to the weakest link (In your case, the netgear) so even though the cable, PC, and XBox360 will ALL do 100Mb. The Netgear will only do 10Mb, so the others slow down to that speed to make it work.
BTW - Unless you have a super-bonkers 10Mb upload speed on your broadband (i.e leased line) then this is NOT the source of your lagging. It is more than likely your provider."Getting Married" - The act of betting half of everything you own on the fact you will love someone forever :rotfl:0 -
I found that by using the netgear hub and the XBox and PC the signal wasnt being shared properly but was quite poor on the PC until I switched to a D-Link router DL-524 and I have had a fab connection on both PC and XBox.
And make sure you have a Ethernet Patch cable and not a crossover cable.0 -
I found when plugging my router into my modem i had to change its IP to get it to work as blueyonder defaults to 192.168.1.1 so when the router does the same it all goes belly up....0
