Inside my cars wet - where's it coming from?

I noticed last night that the floor behind the drivers seat in my car is soaking wet - I wiped it up but this morning its even wetter - a layer of water (I presume) on the floor.

My car is a 2 year old peugeot 206.

I cannot see any signs of leaking or where any water can be coming in and it seems odd that just the footwell area in the back is so soaking wet. It wasn't even raining last night.

I've rang the garage and am waiting for someone to call me back.

Does anyone have any ideas what it can be?

the a/c drain may be blocked - this sometimes exits the condensation / water into the car rather than outside!

  • Thanks skr80 - hopefully it will be something that simple as we need the car for the weekend as we are going away.

I've amanged to get the car booked into the garage this afternoon and they'll look at it.
  • No it was parked on the flat for 2 days and I hadn't driven it. I then drove it and parked on my partners drive which is on a slight slop and I noticed it wet about 10 minutes after parking.
  • Could be your heater matrix, this is simular to the radiator but 'inside' so it's full of hot water - You can normally tell because the water in the car has a chemical smell or looks rusty and 'I wouldn't recomend you try this' but tastes 'sweet'

If so - not a cheep fix I'm afraid, have you checked your water level - another good inicator would be if this has dropped.

Not something really silly is it ... someone left a drinks bottle lying on its side in the footwell? Or the window not properly closed?

If it is a real leak they can be beggers to track down - amazing how much water can get through a tiny hole, especially if it's driving up off the road past a loose bolt or something. Has anything been done to the car lately? ... any minor crash damage fixed recently for instance? ... Seats or seat belts removed for any reason?

  • All sorted now - thanks for your replies everyone!

Turns out it was the inner seal on the door - the water was being directed into the car and not outside.

Luckily it was covered under warranty.
