what car insuance for 18 yr girl (learner)
Hi can any one give some advice.
We've seen a car for our DD, she's not past her test yet. Only just started having lessons. We don't know if it's best to insure it fully comp or 3PFT.
Got quotes in her name as a learner, insurance is less than a £1000 both ways. We were thinking if she starts paying now, then when she has passed her test. She will have buit up some insurance history.
So is it better to insure fully comp or 3PFT.
Many thanks for any answers.

I would obtain some quotes as a new driver, they will seriously impact the choice of car.
Do not assume that the quotes will be less than a learner !
It is based upon risk.
A learner is very low risk.
A teenager driving after passing a test alone is a very high risk.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hi done that and it does go up slightly to a max of £1300 FC.
The car a basic group 1 car.
Still not sure wether to do FC or 3PFT0 -
If it is money saving tips you want:
Insure the car as a second car on your own policy with your daughter as a named learner driver:
The clock will be re-set when she passes her test on NCD and records.
It may save you a few hundred quid in the short term, plus if the car needs to be moved, serviced or repaired , you wont need your daughter to drive it.
PS. if you can find a company to insure a new driver for £1300 please do post the company, it would be very helpful to the forum .
Good find !

If the car is valuable, then obviously FC.
Otherwise get quotes for both - these days it's often cheaper to go FC.
And if the car isn't worth much, then go FC with a massive excess (£1000+) and see if that is cheaper than TP.
Also check that your chosen onsurer will still continue to insure her after she passes her test. (Many will take on learners but not "novice" full licence holders, and were you to choose one of those, then after passing she would have to cancel the policy (expensive business), and go elsewhere)0 -
I got quotes of £400 for a 2004 Ka, Full Comp. Car in her name as a provisional holder.
Less cover usually meant dearer quotes.
I could not add my name onto the policy though, So if i needed to drive it then it would have
to be under my insurance.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Some companies are good for learners, some for after they've passed.
Some charge a large fee to change, or cancel if you need to move when you pass.
Try

we had an annual policy for our daughter, it's a pay as you go, not a credit agreement, refund is pro rata to the day you pass, (you an only drive as a provisional though), no hidden fees, doesn't need another policy on the car, when she passed after a couple of months we took out a fully comp policy with someone else.0
