Do I to work out KWh or use meter readings?

This may be a stupid question, but do I need to work out my KWh usage with an equation on these comparison sites or do I just enter my meter reading over the last 12 months?
Apologies if this is explained somewhere that I've not seen.

It`s only the gas where there are different types of meters.
Cubit feet and metric.
Only the cudit feet one needs to be converted but it usually asks which you have and works it out for you.0 -
Well firstly you do not say if you are talking gas or electric.
The electric meter reading is already in kwh, but the gas needs converting, if you have a metric meter then to get a fairly accurate conversion just multiply the units by 11.2, however for an imperial meter just multiply by 31.5.
But really there is no need to do this because it has already been done on your bills, so just take the last 4 quarterly bills to get your annual usage in kwh. If you do not have the bills then your provider should give you your annual usage.
It is important that you enter the annual kwh usage into comparison sites and not annual spend.0 -

Or, more easily, take two bills a year apart and deduct the earlier reading from the latter-the result is your annual usage.
Since all billing is done in kWh's, you must convert your gas readings from volume to energy to work out actual costs. Let any comp site do the number crunching for you, or use this site:
