Alot of components don't just need replacing at certain mileage though, also at certain intervals. For example at 3000 miles or 6 months, whichever is sooner. I imagine because they are always exposed to the elements (whether being driven or not) this can have adverse affects.
Depends where you take it. Alot of local garages around this end charge about £20-£30 p/h +vat. (excluding main deals that is)
Funny you should say about it being owned by an elderly couple. The trader said the previous owner was dead!! We also found out later it hadn't been registered for two years. Once the leak had been diagnosed as the ladder frame seals we offered to take it to peugeout and have the work done and we knew this would cost alot more as it would take at least 10 hours work plus retail cost of parts which would have come to about £2,000 on dealership prices. The trader told us not to go to Peugeot as they would invent problems as everyone on here seems to think we are. If you want I can start posting some of the pictures of the old parts which we still have sat in the shed. Wish I could get garage labour for £20 - £30 per hour.

Most wear and tear on an engine occurs when the engine is started, & when cold / warming up. Such a low mileage would suggest lots of short journeys and hence lots of wear to the engine (which probably rarely reached operating temperature). It probably has more wear than a car that has done 15K motorway miles a year.0 -

Just because the car has only travelled 26000 miles, it does not mean that there isn't a need for the clutch to be replaced, for example.
Excessive clutch wear in a relatively low mileage car is mainly caused by a poor driving style. So it could easily require replacement.
Even if replacement wasn't urgent, your mechanic could suggest the clutch be replaced while the engine was out to avoid high costs later.
If this is the case, the cost of this replacement is for you to bear.
Likewise the battery. Also fair wear and tear.0 -

That's exactly what out mechanic said about the clutch to be honest. As the engine was out he could see the wear so just said to replace it as he had the engine out. You do have a point I guess.
Guess we'll just have to see what comes of the solicitors letter. This topic has raised some good points so will update as the saga goes on.0 -

In my view there is absolutely no point in posting pictures of the problem parts.
All that would do is confirming that a problem exists, and no-one is denying that you don't have problems, are they?
IMHO all of your problems are either due to fair wear and tear, or should've been spotted at the time of purchase.0 -
I don't think anyone on here has suggested that you are inventing problems.
In my view there is absolutely no point in posting pictures of the problem parts.

Unfortunately I can't post of the relating info and the whole text trail. If you saw all of his comments they are very contradictory and some are very underhanded. He said at the start we would get the warranty documents and then a couple of months later changed the story to say the warranty company had gone bust and he uses alternative means for warranty. He later changed that story when I had contacted consumer direct and he said have you not received the documents yet? Why change the story?
Like I said my solicitor is a partner in the biggest solicitors in my town and I went to school with him so like I said he would have said if there was no chance of winning. They only are pushing for the oil leak and no warranty policy so will see what happens. If we lose we lose. Lesson learnt I guess and you can all say we told you so!!0
