Co-Op account set up problems

Hi all

I would like some advice please.

I opened a new current and savings account with the Co-Op bank because I was claiming bank charges from First Direct. Co-Op have messed up big time with my direct debit switch over and I am now overdrawn with First Direct although, in fairness, First Direct are not charging me as a good will gesture as part of the settlement. Co-Op have given me £15 because they got it wrong, although I HAD to remind them of this policy. They actually lost the DD mandate that was sent to them. I've had to fill in another one and send that off.

The thing is, should I write and complain because I am now having to pay in additional money and I have had to cancel some direct debits myself because they are due for payment and all my cash is being paid into my new account. I feel that I am doing Co-Ops job for them. It's caused me upset and stress because i'm disabled, having a flare up of my health problems and i'm having to drive to get to the bank to pay in cash to cover payments.

I don't want to appear greedy but I feel that, as a new customer, I haven't been treated very well. It was supposed to have been an easy transition.

What do people think? I would value your opinions. Thanks.

  • It's up to you how far you want to take it, but Co-op have given you some money for the inconvenience.....It's not surprising that you had to remind them of their policy ...have never known a bank willingly give out cash unless it's asked for first!!!

It may be better to just let it go though, otherwise you could just end up getting more frustrated and it's probably just not worth it. Mistakes do happen in all industries - banking's no different.... frustrating I know...

I agree with Moonbeam ... on this occasion it's best to let it go. The Co-op probably made a genuine mistake.

I have an account with them and I've no had any problems ...they've always been very helpful ... :o
