File Associations Problem With JPEG

Hi

This has been driving me nuts.

If I go to MY COMPUTER / TOOLS / FOLDER OPTIONS / FILE TYPES and go to the extension JPG and JPEG I do not get recommended program as Adobe Photoshop CS2. If I use browse and browse to Photoshop CS2 it does not register. It's fiine if I choose Adobe Image Ready and the TIF extension allows me to choose Adobe photoshop CS2. This is a recent problem and is driving me nuts. Any suggestions on how I can change this association in another manner?

    To change file associations

    1. Right-click a file with the extension whose association you want to change, and then click Open With.
    2. In the Open With dialog box, click the program where you want the file to open, or click Browse to locate the program that you want.
    3. Select the 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' check box.

(assuming you are using MS Windows XP)

Thanks, but I already knew that. It just does not allow me to do it. The choice is there as one would expect but when I click on Photoshop CS2 (even just to open with it the once), it does nothing at all. I certainly can open JPEGS from within Photoshop so it's really strange.
  • If I use browse and browse to Photoshop CS2 it does not register.

What do u mean, it does not register? Is CS2 in the pick list ? Did you tick the "Always use this program to open this type of etc etc.." ?

    Here is what I do

    1. Right Hand Click On File
    2. Select [Open With]
    3. Select [Choose Program]
    4. Navigate to [Photoshop.exe] - File type is program and it is the correct file
    5. Press [Open] - The other option is [cancel]

    Now the strange bit.

You ask wether I tick 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'. I don't even get to that stage. Sure it's there to tick if I want, but Photoshop.exe has not appeared, or been chose at all. It is really strange. If I do exactly the same thing using Adobe ImageReady, Or Adobe Acrobat or any other program that can actually open JPEGS all is fine. OI do know how to associate extensions with programs but I have hjust hit a brick wall on this one. I was kinda hoping I was just doing soemthing really basic wrong, but I do not think I am.
