Boiler squeaking noise when on

We had squeaking noise coming from the boiler so we got the boiler man in. He instantly said it was the fan and managed to get rid of it by spraying some 3 in 1 oil spray around the fan area. He said because it gets hot, the 3 in 1 oil spray will evaporate and the noise will return very soon (it’s been 2 weeks now and it hasn’t), so a replacement is advisable. He quoted us £200 including new fan & labour. He said when the fan packs up, the boiler will go into shut down mode. I’m not questioning whether this is true or not be rather if the 3 in 1 oil spray does really evaporate. It seems to have done the job so I don’t really want to spend £200 unnecessary if the 3 in 1 oil fixes the problem. Any advice greatly appreciated.
The boiler is maximum 12 yrs old (conventional type) glow worm.

He is wrong. You need to remove the mouse which has graced you with its presence and decided to take up residence. Once gone so will the squeaking.
Seriously though in time the oil will go and the squeak will return. Timescale indeterminate. You could well oil it again and make it go on for some further indeterminate time. Depending on model fan will be £ 95ish to £160ish so fitted thats a good price.
TBH only you can make the decision.

Ive just come in from lubricating a fan on a Baxi, I last oiled it in November 2011 and it lasted until tonight. The first visit was a late call as was this one, the LL has now had a total of two call out charges for this fault costing £95. A replacement fan was £120 plus labour. Keystone is right, oil only lasts so long and a dry bearing wont go right. Have it fixed before you end up paying more than a new fan + labour.
The fan draws/pushes the combustion gases through the heat exchanger and out of the flue. If it fails to start or run at the correct speed the boiler wont light and will eventually go into lock out.0 -
We had to face the same problem in October last year... called the landlord to inform the problem. He sent the technician who changed the fan and the bill came to around the same amount.0
