Scratched car windscreen repairs

Was driving home the other night when noticed that my windscreen wiper blade had been bent. Unfortunately I obviously noticed too late as now have two 6 inch scratches to my windscreen, which I believe will be an MOT failure.

Anyway my question is does windscreen insurance cover scratches (my policy just states damage to windscreen is covered. Don't want to ring them just yet as if it turns out I am not covered may have to resort to brick through windscreen in order to claim

Has anyone ever claimed on their insurance for scratches as I can only find reference to chips/cracks on other forums.

Alternatively has anyone ever used Glas Weld company for windscreen scratch repairs, were they any good and roughly how much did it cost?

I have contacted another company that can polish them out but their quote was for £326 , er don't think so, can get a new windscreen cheaper than that!).

Thanks in anticipation of your help folks.

make sure you are insured and just smash it
tell em a piece of an orbiting scatellite must have fallen on it
  • TBH i find most insurers will pay for a screen those compasnies who say it dont affect your NCB well in a way it can if your youll notice your premium will go up and your NCB that you have prtected wont increse by a year but stay as it was last year.

pay private more cost affective IMHO.

    What makes you think this?

Take it in to your usual MOT place and ask them their opinion before spending on this.

Think twice before claiming on your insurance, It probably wont affect your no claims BUT it will affect the premium for the next 5 years.

  • Have spoken to the guy who usually does my MOT (my mum's next door neighbour) who admitedly hasn't seen the damage yet but thinks it will be a MOT failure due to the size and location of the scratches.

Would like to get it repaired but so far only quote is almost double that of paying for a new windscreen. Has anyone used any reasonable repair companies for this kind of damage?

How can someone who has not seen the damage offer any advice?

I think it will pass the MOT, But that rear tyre looks dodgy to me.

Polishing scratches out is time consuming, Get yourself a kit and do a bit each day/week
depending on how soon the MOT is.
