I know you have looked on Trip Advisor re the hotel but have you tried their forums. Just put in Barcelona Forum and it brings up a wealth of information about Barcelona. I also use virtual tourist forum as once again I have gleaned loads from them. We are going back in April and hope to have just as much fun as before when we have been.
No Matter what you do there will be critics.

Thanks...please keep the advice coming. I have more specific questions now

    1) Whats the cheapest way to get from Girona to our hotel http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187497-d229679-Reviews-Le_Meridien_Barcelona-Barcelona_Catalonia.html ???

21 EURO BUS OUTSIDE ARRIVALS DIRECT TO ARC DE TRIOMF METRO

    2) Where is good for nightlife on a Sunday/Monday night??
3/4 DOWN THE RAMBLAS ON THE LEFT IS MUSEU DE CERA WALK DOWN THIS LANE AND TAKE A RIGHT AT THE END, THE BAR IS NICE IF VERY UNUSUAL.

    3) Where is the cheapest place to buy tour bus/nou camp tickets.

    4) we only have a day and a half really there so if their is a route/or sight you recemmend to maximise our time please advise.
TAKE A STROLL DOWN RAMBLAS AND THROUGH THE SIDE STREETS TO THE LEFT (THE RIGHT STREETS ARE SOMEWHAT DODGY)

    5) Where are good phto ops, besides the obvious Cathedral. Is their an easy to get to high up view point over the city??
TAKE THE FUNICULAR TO MONTJUIC WHICH IS WHERE NOU CAMP IS, CROSS THE ROAD AND TAKE IN THE VIEW!

    6) Is their any fun yet affordably restaurants you would reccommend. Like salsa or even banquest(medevel time style restaurants)...bearing in mind its a Sunday/Monday night we are there :-( ...wish it was the weekend but it was much more!!

Nou Camp, Bus tour(if its affordable...at 28E a day in Paris it wasent), Beach, Ramblas and photo op sights appeal to me....not so much the museums to be truthfull(Young...will have plenty of time for that when older:-D)

...Thanks for all the help so far...never knew so many people had been to Barcelona

    Hope this helps

Ryanair have a bus from Girona airport into Barcelona so getting there is easy. Go down to the harbour in Barcelona...it's near the tallest building you'll see on the skyline...and there are loads of restaurants overlooking the harbour. There was a club near the Gehry fish statue which locals seemed to queue to get into but I don't know any more about it. Have a great time.

    Hello,

I have just booked a short break to Barcelona for myself and some friends. I have always wanted to go there, and have pesuaded my friends to part with their money to come along, so i have a burden to make sure we have a great time which im sure we will anyway. Downside is we are going through the week next month(Sun 13th - 15th March), as i got an amazing price for the hotel then. We are all in our early 20's and are fun loving, and of course moneysaving loving. I am looking for moneysaving tips, and sightseeing/nightlife recommendations. Everything from the cheapest way to get from Girona airport to our hotel to the cheapest way to see the sights\buy the bus tour. From where we should go for nightlife(bearing in mind its a March Sunday/Monday we will be there) to what else you would recommend we do(besides the bus tour). All help would be really really fantastic for this trip.

    thanks in advance

ps. if it helps, this is our hotel http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187497-d229679-Reviews-Le_Meridien_Barcelona-Barcelona_Catalonia.html

I found John Bolton's personal website (Barcelona Tourist Guide) and his free Barcelona Travel newsletter useful last year.
    http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/barcelona-tourism-index.html
There's a section on "how to find out what events are on when you visit Barcelona" on his newsletter back issues page http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/membership-area/newsletter-back-issues/includes

    Enjoy your trip
  • The open top Bus Turistic is great. Really cheap and you can hop on and off at all the sites you'l find more info here. Can have a one or two day ticket so spreads out the sites. Can buy them in advance but there are lots of little tourist centre huts, get the voucher books off them as one of the first things you do, this'll get you discounts off the bus tour and also entry into some of the sites at a discount

We caught from the Placa de catalunya at the top of the ramblas, and did the blue then the red all in one day. The blue will take you where the olympic stadia are and also Funicular de Montjuïc which give a panoramic view of barcelona (good pics) this is where Espanyol play. The red route is the northern one and stops off at many of Gaudi's places and also tours round the Nou camp. If you've only got a limited amount of time it'll give you a good feel for the place

For spectacular views also try the cable car.

also for getting around cheaply use the metro a T10 tickets's the best value info here

    You'll have a fab time

Thanks..Great advice. Yeah, if you anybody knows exactly what the cheapest hop-on/off bus is please let me know where to get it. Looking for a bus tour that does all the sites quickly(like a half day bus tour if poss.) at a good price.

Also, as their 6, maybe 8 of us, and time is an issue, we could get private transport if its 11euro each way each to Barcelona. Woudlnt mind even paying a little more for private transport...more comfortable and might save time -any ideas of how i can organise this cheaply would be greatly appreciated. Also where is the cheapest pleace to buy Nou Camp tickets to walk round the stadium??

    Thanks again

You can go up Montjuïc mountain to get high up but it takes a while and you only have a little time.

I'm not much of a photographer but I would recommend:

Casa Batilló (on Passeig de Gràcia) - weird Gaudí house
    Barcelona Cathedral
    Sagrada Família church
Palace of Music (but cramped in by surrounding buildings)
Poble Espanyol (spanish village, not a favourite of mine but maybe for pictures and near Montjuïc)
Mercat de Sant Josep (market, not Sunday)
    Camp Nou
    Ramblas (for people)

Parc Guell is another great place for photo's.
Just outside the centre you can catch the Metro to Lesseps and walk up the hill. Gives a fabulous view of the City in the "bowl" with hills on 3 sides and the sea in front of you.

The cheapest hop on off bus is the Bus Turistic (see my previous post) if you go to the site link it tells you the price and you can get a couple of euros off by getting the discount books. Heres the link again click here and it tells you the prices and all the sights it stops at.

Depending on how many times you get off on on and what you want to see will determine hoew long it takes. We did red and blue (getting off at a few places) took about 5/6 hours

As previosly mentioned (and based on where you're staying) catch it at the north end of las ramblas at the placa de catalunya.

If you go on this bus it's stops at the nou camp and you can get off there

for details of tours around the ground click here They last about 45mins
Opening hours:10:00 -18.30 (Mon to Sat); Sun and Bank holidays (10:00-14:30)
Admission: 7 Euros for entry to museum and 11 Euros - for a guided tour
you can book tickets in advance on the web

for transport from Girona airport click here it gives you the options and an indication of prices.
Having only flown into barcelona airport nd getting a taxi to barcelona can't give you much idea of price from a personal point of view (but know it was really cheap as there was 3 of us)

looking at the website it says the approx price of a taxi from Girona airport is 115euros

Go to this link click here and scroll to the bottom of the page it tells you how much the bus costs to barcelona and about minibuses

Please have a look at all the links that other posters have provided as all the info you need is on them
