Windows vista

I ve just bought a new pc with windows xp which can be upgraded to windows vista home premium for free. I want to network this pc with my other 2 that have xp as thier operating system. Are they compatable? I have tried xp with windows 98 a while back any they never worked very well toghter.

Any advice as to whether I should upgrade or leave it as xp?

I've not home networked the two, but at work we run Vista and XP on the same network without any problems. I don't see, given the right setup, why they wouldn't be compatible. I'm sure someone who has a similar network at home will be able to shed some light.

  • Windows xp was built with brilliant networking features. When Microsoft built Vista, they produced it holding the fact that not all computers in the household or office will be upgrading to vista so they made networking between the operating systems very simple.
Xp and VISTA networking is fine, i use it for my office and home and windows xp.

There is no need to upgrade to vista for networking however if you do so, it would be very similar to network than with xp.

Even though your computer says Vista ready, I personally would not upgrade to vista until i had 2gb of ram and a fast duo core processor.
If you only have 1gb ram, you will find that xp runs fast with 1gb but vista runs fine but slower.

That is my personal view though, so if you prefer vista then go for it.

    Good luck, Joe
