I work for an NHS PCT and we have no problem calling mobiles. I often make appointments over the phone and can never catch people at home so Im always thankful if I have a mobile number.

My main problem at the moment is people who have their phones set up to not accept with-held numbers. As all our outgoing calls are diverted through a huge switchboard they always go out with with-held number. I end up having to phone these people on my own mobile phone which is a bit frustrating.

Much better to have this cost-cutting policy than to keep reducing the numbers of doctors and nurses.

Has anyone heard about the NHS removing lightbulbs from wards etc to help save £3m a year in electricity costs?? It was on the news a few days ago. They'll be performing operations by candle-light soon!
  • my mum works for NHS and she said this does not suprise her

some of the phones have blocked access for outbound calls, only internal
from my um's office they do as she deals with the pre-ops for operations

This is a question I asked my GP's secretary when she told me they would not ring a mobile back.

Their answer was that, despite pressing redial 37 times (YES! REALLY!!!), I would have to try and ring back later and speak to the triage nurse.

Ridiculous. I can understand then preferring to ring landlines, but surely there must be occasions when a mobile number is mroe appropriate or the only available number.
  • In my area they send out a text message to remind you of your appointment but they will not phone a mobile.

Anthillmob have you decided whether or not to go ahead? have you managed to find someone on standby if necessary? :)
