replacing a UPVC front door

Hi,

We're thinking of replacing our front door in the next rouind of jobs to be done for 2 reasons mainly: it lets in a reasonable draught as i dont think it's sealed particularly well, and they're damn ugly!

Is there any downsides to going back to a traditional heavy wooden door? It's straight into our front room so needs to be as drauht free as possible.

House is 1911? semi so not going for the modern look.

Also any (very rough) ideas on cost fitted, west midlands area???

depending on the quaility of the door, the cost should be comparable with a UPVC door.
    Get some gorm.
  • Downside...wooden doors swell and contract depending on weather....could stick a bit in winter months !

have you tried a composite door, try looking at rock doors, they look decent and im having them come round to give me a quote as my wooden door is slightly bowed in the corner allowing a draft to get in and the frame looks like swiss cheese from previous owners lock replacements.
  • they look pretty good, i'll get a quote

hadnt considered swelling etc if i'm honest

I've got an old house, put in a new upvc 'cottage style' door from Appeer doors - no regrets, no drafts very happy with it.

I wouldn't go back to hardwood now

We bought a composite door last year & we're very pleased with it. Easy to keep clean. No maintenance required. Our house was built in 1897 & we chose a style to suit the house.
  • Cheers peeps

I think my main issue with white UPC is that every single house has it, and it just doesn't look right!

You can have any colour you like on a door - loads of choice. I've got rosewood windows/doors
