PPI - where do i start?

Hi all,
I've been reading all of the success stories regarding the reclaiming of mis-sold PPI. While all of that is great news i'm somewhat lost on where to start.
I know that over the last 10 years i've had plenty of Credit Cards and a couple of loans but i dont have any information on any of them now. I've moved quite a lot too and wouldnt even know what card i had at what address either....
If i was to investigate the possibility of trying to claim back, how would i get started to find all of the companies and banks reference numbers along with my addresses?
Seems like quite a lot of hard work which i'm happy to do - but where to start?
