I thought the whole point of Waitrose was that you pay 10 times what things normally cost because of their amazing customer service. But it's probably the worst customer service I have experienced in my life...!

When I was comparing sainsburys, tesco and waitrose when doing an online shop, waitrose only came out about £5 more expensive than sainsburys. Sainsburys was a couple of pounds more expensive than tesco for the same sort of shop, but due to offers I got far more food. 10 times the price certainly isn't true.

That being said, if that's the worst customer service you have EVER experienced, then you're very, very lucky.

I don't read it like that at all, to me it definitley reads as Waitrose own lines. Otherwise there would have been no need to phrase it as they did, they would simply have put:

""Should you not enjoy [STRIKE]one of our products[/STRIKE] your purchase, tell us and we’ll replace and refund you. It is our policy to replace or refund you for [STRIKE]Waitrose food and household lines[/STRIKE] any item if: a product is not at fault, but genuinely bought by mistake or you are unhappy with the product in anyway"

By specifying a Waitrose product IMO they are cleary stating that they will offer a refund on their own branded products, not any item they stock. Sainsbury's do the same.

It could be because some people will brazenly try to return not only branded items they bought elsewhere, but even other supermarket brands. I guess they just want to be explicit that it's a supermarket, not a pawn shop.

If that's their policy, it's not followed at my local Waitrose. I've twice returned non-Waitrose-branded products, and both times was given twice the price paid in return, with apologies.

They apologised and gave you a double refund just because you bought the wrong thing/changed your mind? Really? That's incredible. Wow, no wonder people shop at Waitrose, that could be a nice little earner, I must try that with say a £35 bottle of champagne.
