Final bill for prepayment customer 3 years after switching providers???

Hi, I'm hoping one of you lovely expert moneysavers can solve a bit of a mystery for me!!!

Today I have received, in the post, a final bill from Eon. Which I must admit was a bit of surprise because a) I am, and always have been, on a prepayment key meter and b) I switched suppliers in December 2008!!!

My question is, how is this possible? I switched from Eon to EDF because I realised I wasn't getting a very good deal, and I used the key that Eon supplied me with right up until I had a letter from EDF confirming that they had taken over the supply and sent me a new key to use. Which I started using as soon as I received it. I'm just wondering if anyone else who is a prepayment customer has had this when switching suppliers? Obviously I intend to queerey this, but should contact EDF or Eon? Presumably as I am paying upfront for my electric, any money owed to Eon for the supply should be the responsibility of EDF to pay, not me as technically I have already paid! I know Eon are a shady bunch, which is what lead me to switch supply in the first place, so I'm inclined to think they are trying it on. And I really can't understand why it has taken them over 3 years to send this bill out? I haven't moved without telling anyone!!!

Has this happened to anyone else? How did you resolve it?

    This sounds odd, but I want to help you if I can.

    I know this is a long time ago, but did you get a final statement from us when you changed supplier?

    How much is the bill for?

    And what dates does the bill have on it?

    I'm sorry about all the questions, but either this is the final statement from 2008 when you changed supplier and for some reason this was stuck and has now just been released?? Or maybe something went wrong at the change of supplier times, using the wrong key, maybe?

    I could be wrong :o here as impossible to say without seeing the account. I would advise you to speak to the Pre-Payment department at E.ON and ask what has gone wrong.

    It is a bit odd isn't it? It's definitley a bill and not a statement, can't honestly remember if I got a final statement at the time or not. The bill is for £57.81 and is for the dates 07/08/08 - 08/12/08. It was late October/early November 2008 that I decided to switch suppliers and continued to use the Eon key until I got the new one from EDF. Can't understand how I can be billed for something I have already paid for and at a time when I was still an Eon customer. The bill also says "we have not received any payments since your last statement on 17 January 2012".... I haven't received any other bills or statements, this is the first I have heard from Eon in years!
