Oh god, Ill tell you our first year of marriage was tough, it's no walk in the park, and after you've spent the last of your savings on the wedding, and reality hits, you'll be very glad to not have the added pressure of the 10k hanging over you.
It really will get in the way of your happiness!0 -
Hi Bramble,
There is a world of difference between wanting to be married and wanting a wedding. Are you sure you are certain of which you want? If you truely love someone you would marry them wearing tatty jeans and holes in your shoes . The "extras" of the wedding dont matter.the flowers the dress the meal the dance.all meaningless really. what you need is to want to be with that person forthe rest of your days no matter what.
I'd pay off the debt personally. Then cut up the credit cards and not get into debt again.0 -

I want to be married more than I want a wedding- but like i said it's a once in a lifetime thing, so i want it to be special.
the cards are cut up and we're never getting credit of any sort again!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Noone is saying you shouldn't have a nice wedding, as you say, it's a (hopefully) one off special day in your lives and it's not like you're planning on going OTT.
BUT, financially, it does not make sense to not pay off your debt. You will have more money leftover each month which you can then use to save for your wedding before it then becomes truly free disposable money for whatever else you want to do. You will be free of the emotional and physical pressure of the debt and will not start your married life laden with financial burdens which can (and do) often cause problems in relationships later on down the line.
All we're trying to do is get you to think about the logistics of it. Weddings are emotional, heartfelt affairs, but you need to seperate the emotion from it all and look at which would make you better off financially.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
