    Hi

Thanks ref the info Tower of London, I might re-consider. I know all sights aren't up to people's taste, but we might pass on the tour. At least the kids can say "wow -Ive seen Tower of London"! By going pass it in some way!

Kids are interested in seeing the dinasaurs in the History Museum, once that sight is out the way, then I think they will call that 1 a day. I also found Baden-Powell house near by. Kids are both in cubs & scouts, so that might be worth visiting for them. Something to tell the Scout/Cub leader

We intend to drive down. 3hr journey. More direct & cheaper for us. But certainly a good offer ref the 2for1 when going by train. Just got to get a route sorted out from my relatives to avoid the Congestion Charge. Im hoping the Sat Nav will avoid that for us.

I used to live in Woolwich, and spent a lot of my time also in Greenwich! I love the place. Especially the scenery and the markets. Shame about the Cutty Sark not being open.
British Museum - never gave it a 2nd thought to be honest, where's that?
They watch endless of programmes on the history channel ref Egyptian Mummies!

Never thought about HMS Belfast either, where's that situated, and what can we expect to see when visiting (please dont say a boat). lol

DS also looking forward to visiting Covent Garden, after I told him about the buskers, Im glad they are still there!

    Thanks again

You forgot to mention the complimentary green tea at Wong Kei's and that service is not included, and a tip is appreciated.

Number 15 also goes past St Paul's.

support for won kei - i have been going to this place for 20+ years and then introduced my 2 now 15 and 12 to it about 5 years ago and they
absolutely love it, usually just go to convent garden in the summer and just watch the artists, laugh at nothing and de-stress and then lunch in won kei, and back to convent garden again.
lots to see at little cost

  • Use the bus NOT the tube. You can look out and there is so much to show the children. The architechture is breathtaking. Also going over the bridges is fun. I love Tower Bridge so even if you don't do the Tower see the bridge preferably at night. Albert Bridge is pretty too at night. Harrods is lit up of course too.
The parks are lovely too. So if you are at Kensington Palace you might be lucky with the weather and be able to have a picnic.
The Houses of Parliament are beautiful and worth a drive past.
If you are hungry The Stock Pot chain used to be fab if they are still running. Might be worth checking out http://www.timeout.com/london/ I used to swear by their guide to eating and drinking.
Have a wonderful time. I miss living there.

  • Thanks everyone for this interesting thread - I am taking my 2 dds to London courtesy of this site (I got free Virgin Rail tickets!) and we are using Tesco clubcard deals to pay for The Tower of London, Original Bus tour thingy and also a meal at Planet Hollywood! We are only in London for 2 nights - can anyone suggest something to do for the last night (first night we are booked to see Phantom) - my youngest dd is 10. Thanks.

  • You can combine a visit to the Monument and the Tower Bridge Experience for £6 per Adult. The Tower Bridge experience allows you to walk up the towers, over the walkways, and down into the engine room. I will admit that this will not detain you for more than an hour, but it is an experience.

I think you will find it hard to cram all this in. our kids found it very tiring.

I know, but its worth a try, and with some of the sights being near to each other, we can get 1 area covered in 1 day and the other on the next day. IYKWIM.
