NPower have messed up my mother in laws meter readings.
Hi all, Posting for my MIL. She uses NPower for gas and electricity and has submitted readings in December online, hasnt had a bill when it stated it would be December when she would receive one. I emailed them and it seems they have got the meter readings mixed up as she is on E7 and NPower have mixed up day and night readings, they have asked for readings to by taken this morning then 5 hours later and another later. At the moment she has been paying £100 per month DD for both, and I think she had a deficit of £217. from the last bill back in September, Im hoping she will be in credit and will be able to lower her DD she is 75. We may be switching her to BG after all this, NPower are useless.

Does your ML use gas for heating & hotwater? It's not cast in stone, but if she does it's unlikely that it's economic for her to be on an E7 meter
It also may be why n'power have confused her readings:
E7 is designed for Elec. heating & hotwater, where the consumption of Night tariff units is far greater than those on the Day tariff - The Great Computer that runs the billing looks for this Night/Day differential and bills accordingly - So if ML is using more Day power than Night power the computer thinks "Whizz, Bang, Clunk, Clunk. I'll bill the the highest use I can see at the Night rate"0 -
BG also have the same problem with night and day readings reversed so switching won't resolve that issue.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Ask to be billed as a single rate meter instead of E7, that will stop them messing up I would presume.0

Thanks Adam,
Mother in law has heard from a very nice lady at NPower and is now waiting for a follow on call from them on Tues this week, they are also going to change the meter to a one rate meter instead of an E7 meter. Also they have changed the DD amount.
Once again many thanks to everyone who has offered advice very much appreciated.

am a bit confused as to why dogshome would think the billing dept bills night rate at the highest rate when night rate is usually 12.30 am to 7.30 am ( 1.30 to 8.30 in bst) which is usually the time virtually nothings being used except fridges. No, !!!!-ups are rife in the eco 7 world, the reasons, managers are too stupid and lazy to train their staff how to imput readings into the many types of eco 7 meters that are around0

Hi sacsquacco - E7 meters are designed for "All Electric" households, where heating and hot water is cooked up overnight on the cheap night tariff
With each Storage Radiator consuming appx. 3Kwh an hour for 7 hours, plus the hotwater tank doing the same, Night consumption particularly in Winter far exceeds that used during the day.
A problem often arises when an ECO7 house installs mains gas, but doesn't bother to tell the supplier who then takes the highest meter reading as the Night rate, when in fact the power has been used during the day.
It gets worse
Even when the customer does tell the supplier about the Gas, instead of changeing the Elec meters for a 'Standard' one, the supplier often takes the cheap option of adding together the Day & Night readings of the ECO 7 meters and Billing the total at 'Standard' rates.
The problem with this is that's it's all done by a simple note on the customers file - When that customer moves home, the note is lost and the new occupier, who knows nothing about the history, ends up with Gas Heating & Hotwater and E7 Electric billing - Which is probably what happened to Pink1970's ML0 -
Totally agree with this, it causes loads of problems, plus if the meter is due to be changed guess what the person is likely to fit... It happens if you change supplier too...
