Removal of cavity wall insulation - where to start?

My house needs to have the cavity wall insulation removed due to very bad damp. It was put in about 8-9 years ago before I bought the house. From what my neighbour says I believe it is it is blown fibre. It's been assessed by the council and his recommendation was to have it removed (and in due course once the house had dried out replaced with a newer method - bonded beads I think he said - although that's a consideration for another day).
I have looked into the CIGA warranty, but I think it's going nowhere. I have no paperwork, and the previous owner of the house is deceased. CIGA have told me they have no record of my house on their system.
My problem is finding someone to quote for this work and do it. We have a very good local builder who I will use to re-render and repaint the house, but he does not have the equipment to do the removal and has no experience of doing so.
Can anyone suggest a reputable company for this work, or where to start looking, for NW Scotland?
Thanks.
Joe.

A major problem to remove.
The main answer seems to be to get the installers involved or as you pointed out the CIGA.
googled "CWI Removal" for the following.

Hi there Joe,
Ive just been searching on google myself and it brought me to your post. Weve just had someone round to find out why we have so much damp in the small bedroom at the front of the house. Its terrible and we thought it was down to some sort of leak however hes told us its down to the cavity wall insulation (also done around 10 years ago). So like you, were wondering how to go about getting it removed. We have no idea who installed it.
I also found the links posted above and after reading some sites i cant tell whether we just had a dodgy installation all those years or not. Some people say its a good thing, others not. Therefore i really want a good company that is able to remove it properly and not someone who will do half a job.
Will keep an eye on this thread as im very interested to know what actions to take next myself. Would be grateful to hear from anyone else that has experienced similar problems in the past and what they did to rectify.

Thanks 2010.
Henno, I have emailed jeff from ask-jeff - I'll post something on here if and when I get a reply.

Hi,
The cavity wall insulation can be extracted using an industrial sized hoover and a compressor, some materials can be more time consuming than others, for example foam insulation needs to be broken up with a whipper.
Bricks would be removed just above damp course, ie on a gable wall you would have three bricks removed, one at each end and one in the middle of the gable wall. The cavity wall holes would then be re-drilled, working from the first row of holes, shooting high compressed air through a specialist nozzle forcing the insulation out of the holes, and sucked up by the adapted industrial hoover.
This can be a time consuming job and an expensive one, not something you should be attempting on your own! For any more advice please don't hesitate to contact me.
All smoke and mirrors IMHO - a sales pitch to make money from innocent home owners. There is nothing in this to give me confidence to specify this procedure.0 -
Agree with ExtractUK. Contact your local cavity wall insulation company as they should be able to do this for you.0
