Meterplus want to change Electricity Meter

Hi All.

Had a TEXT message this morning from Meterplus saying that they are coming to change my electricity meter tomorrow! Not sure if it's dodgy or not though. I've tried Googling a contact number for Meterplus - this comes back with 0800 0733355. I've rung this but all I get is a dead tone.

I phoned my Energy supplier (EDF). They knew nothing about it. The only contact nunber they could give was the one above.

Should I be having an electricity meter replaced? It's only 15 years old and is one of the digital ones. I switched from EON to EDF last July - could this be something to do with it perhaps?

Does anyone know how to contact Meterplus please?

Cheers

That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Cheers for that. So, looks like I've got to contact Npower (who I've never been a customer of) in order to get Meterplus' number !

    What a performance ...

You don't need to contact them, just let them change the meter. Meterplus will be an agent of the DNO, that's why EDF don't know about it.
Just makes sure a card is left, and record the closing and opening readings yourself.
Meters are normally changed on a 10 year cycle.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it providing this meter is outside & can be accessed readily without affecting your day.

If however it's inside & you need to be around to let them into your home I'd expect greater notice and them to work around your convenience personally - not to just send a text the day before & expect you to simply drop everything to fit in with them.

Their registered office is in Swindon - basically the same as Npowers - but they will obviously be working from somewhere more local to you.

even if your meters outside they will still need access inside to do a polarity check on one of the sockets before and after
  • Thanks for all your replies. Just to let you know that I ended up ringing about 6 different phone numbers that were given to me yesterday by NPower & EDF. None of them really put me through to the right people. A couple of times I got through to someone at MeterPlus only to be told "Well, we are MeterPlus but we're not that department. Your Energy supplier needs to give you the right number." What ?? Never found 1 company SO difficult to get in touch with.

Anyhow. one kind lady did offer me some assistance in that she was prepared to tell me why my meter was getting changed and that I didn't need to be at home. Apparently, if they cant complete the job then they will make further arrangements with me.

    So. See what happens ....
  • Well, they replaced my meter yesterday - so obviously didn't need to get into the house.

Can't beleive it though! They replaced a digital meter with a clunk-and-click clockwork looking thing !

Did they leave a card with the old and new meter readings on and did you read the old meter before you went out ?
  • Yes, I made sure I took my own meter reading before I went to work. They also left a card inside the meter box with the old meter reading on it and also the new one.
