It irked me to. We are HSBC Premier customers. I looked at the offer and to get it you had to upgrade to Advance or Premier or open a new account.
I think you must have misread the terms, because there was no difference for existing Premier Account, versus existing Bank Account customers, with regard to the 6% offer. Similarly there was no need to open or upgrade any account with HSBC to get it.

So I don't know what people are moaning about, if you missed out its your own fault for not jumping through a couple of very easy hoops. The only 'catches' were, firstly needing a spare current account to switch 2 SOs from, and secondly not to have used the switching service before. Both were things sensible to have in hand anyway, for safety and backup reasons, as well as for offers like this.

As an existing 'ordinary' HSBC bank account customer, i took advantage of the 6% offer. (Premier and Advantage accounts are just marketing gimmicks to get more money out you/sell you their cruddy products). Fortunately got an unused current account elsewhere which I set a couple of token SO's on and transferred them over.

I agree loyalty isn't rewarded but unlike other bank offers this had a big 'loophole' for existing customers. Usually existing customers don't get a look in on things like this, so HSBC are better in that respect, or they've made a never to be repeated mistake ;)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The most you'd make out of this offer is about 100 quid. Banks aren't stupid.

Hi All,I am a Premier customer with HSBC [Non Paying] and they have all my dd,s/o,s i made my feelings known to the premier manager regarding the 6%,i think he was somewhat bombarded by his loyal customers and got the distinct feeling they had shot themselves in the foot with this offer.
I personally removed most of my savings to Northern Rock and various other better paying institutions and now just have the fixed Rate Isa,s left which mature in April then it is goodbye to HSBC after 15/16 years.

It is good to see people voting with their feet. I am an ex premier customer, I down graded my account because it did not make sense to keep £50k plus with their woeful rates. Like Martin says, loyalty pays them not you.

Solution, open another account elsewhere. Create 2 SOs. Switch and get 6%. It's always worth having a backup bank account for emergencies.

I know this is off topic here,

but I opened a HSBC account when i was 22 (now 24) they said you have to pay in £500 A MONTH but this rule doesn't apply if your under 24 so during 22 and 23 i've never heard from them at all no problems I chuck in 80 or sometimes 200 a month in the account, (but check this..) the second I turned 24 within a month i got a letter saying im not meeting there £500 funding requirements.... so they will downgrade my account to 'CURRENT ACCOUNT' <
    Don't I already have that ? lol

cheeky b@stards i think... they must of been waiting till i turned 24 ? ...

No, you have something HSBC call a 'Bank Account' - a 'Current Account' is a slightly different product though I don't know what the differences are (not much I think).

I don't think they offer it by default any more.

Under the 'Bank account criteria it states:
Will you be paying at least £500 per month into this account?

If you don't make the £500 monthly payment required to maintain your account, we will either change it to a Current Account or give you notice that we will be closing your account. If you are under the age of 24, the qualification criteria will not apply.
However, the page for the current account seems to have gone (perhaps in the last redesign?)

As I say, I don't think there is much difference. If I recall correctly HSBC have changed the name of their 'standard' free bank account a few times over the last few years - it used to be Current Account.. then I think they renamed it to Current Account Advance and now its 'Bank Account..
