Bali

Options
We had a brilliant holiday last year in Bali, and would like to return this summer for a couple of weeks.
Flight searches have brought up nothing less than about £800 each for the second half of July from London. Can anyone suggest a cheaper way, maybe going via an Asian hub and then onward by cheap budget carrier.
Etihad Airways (Based in the Middle East) are quite good and I have seen offers to Bali with them for June. However I cannot bring up Denpasar (Balis airport) on their web search facility. Any help appreciated.

  • Try using travelocity flight search and check the my dates are flexible box and this will come up with a table of options against dates. You might have to be bit flexible, and have late night flights/connections as most 'easy' out and rtn combinations are coming up as £800 - £900.

    Examples

    Korean Air for about £700:
Sat 14/7 LHR - DPS Sat 28/7 DPS - LHR (both via Seoul)

Qatar for about £650 (cheapest I've seen for around this time of year)
Tue 24/7 LHR - DPS Tue 7/8 DPS - LHR

You can also try for a flight to Kuala Lumpur and get a retun flight to Bali with Airasia for around £65 including taxes.
  • Also worth trying statravel.co.uk with various dates for Kuala Lumpur

LHR - KUL - LHR (Sri Lankan via Colombo) £585 for 15/7 to 28/7
  • Royal Brunei are quite cheap to Bali (they're a dry airline and often go via Bangladesh so both factors drive the price down)

Periodically Singapore Airlines do a 'fly to Singapore and get a free onward flight" which will get you to Bali for around £550.

Otherwise, go to KL and get a budget carrier such as Air Asia for the final leg.

    Etihad only fly to Jakarta.

Qatar (a great airline) have just launched flights to Bali (thank god) and have some excellent launch prices. Try them out.

Otherwise I flew last month Singapore - Bali on Valuair, a low cost carrier. Cost me £30 return (tax included), so you could always look at Singapore where you have far more options.

Good luck! Bali needs your money at the moment!
  • As well as budget flights, the accommodation is really reasonable.

When I was last in Bali I used this site to find a budget hotel.

We stayed at the Suji bungalow, which is an beautiful and quiet compound in the middle of Kuta

There's an info symbol to the right that says that you can only book online with the countries on the drop down box. If you want to book from elsewhere (i.e. London) contact their local booking office. Might be worth trying travelocity or STA (as I suggested above) or any other booking website/travel agent to get the fares? :)
