applying for credit, address problem..

Hi there, i was just wondering if the missing out one part of my home address on my experian credit file will have a negative impact - such as getting turned down for credit.

When you apply for credit, you usually, type in your house number, then then the post code then press the find the address button.

Usually, when i do this, the following address comes up:

XX The Crescent
Colville Road
Birmingham
West Midlands
B12 8EH

however, on experian, the West Midlands bit is not there, i was just wondering would this be negative and have credit applications turned down.

I have a feeling that i am not even on the electroll roll on equifax as i know i have no credit history but i'm getting turned down for like, the basic stuff. Hopefully my report should come through the post today.

  • According to Royal Mail, the correct form is...

    X the Crescent
    Colville Road
    BIRMINGHAM
    B12 8EH

I live litterally YARDS away from it. I didn't go there but apparently Nelson Mandela came and opened the school, not to sure though? :rotfl::rotfl:

Actually, he visited it, in 93, school opened a few years before then.

So, anyway, back to the address thingy, what happends if a website ads the west midlands bit, should i take out? or should things process fine?

I can't say for sure but I know that I have two versions of my address too and it seems to work fine. The previous owners gave the house a weird name which we never use, just the number. Sometimes the house name is filled in automatically by a website but we just leave it there.

We've been told that we'd have to pay the local authority hard cash for the privilege of dropping the name. :(

I'm sure this doesn't matter - internally all addresses are stored like:

house number or name, flat number or name if any, post code

All the rest is filled by checking the databases. I started thinking that they wouldn't even care about 10 london street or 10 london road if it has the same postcode. Royal mail would guarantee the house number is unique within each postcode anyway.

I've seen my (not real) address recorded even like:

    00000010,London road

And I had problems at a previous address when it was:

    10B London road

If I was not careful how when applying, the B ended up in the flat number (i.e. house "10", flat "b", instead of house "10b"), and they didn't want to talk to me about it.

However, if your house has a name which you don't always use, that can trigger all sorts of trouble as the banks cannot tell why some of your accounts are at a different place, and will suspect you are in the middle of a disappearing act. Sometimes they will inquire by asking for proofs of addresses, and if everything matches what you have given them, it might work out ok. If some of it is different, they will probably ignore you.
    Enjoy the silence...

WOW thank you for this, real big help to this thread.
Can I find out my credit score?
You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)
