I refuse to pay £10 or £20 etc for them to put the box back on the shelf.

While pretty much all you need to know has been covered, I should point out that a "restocking fee" isn't just "putting the box back on the shelf."

It covers the time taken to test the item, and assuming it isn't faulty, restore it back to factory settings, re box it, reduce its price as it's "used" and so on. So for a £200 monitor, for instance, they'll be losing at least £20 in reducing the item price, and then at least £12 in man hours to do all the relevant tests and paperwork, assuming they pay minimum wage.

That's not to say I support restocking fees, but to say that it's just for putting a box back in a shelf is somewhat unfair.

But thats completely irrelevant, they can not charge a restocking fee under DSR.

Hence the point of "everything you need to know has already been covered."

That covers that they can't charge a restocking fee for DSR. However, just so op knows in the future, should they return something that isn't faulty outside of DSR limits, THAT is why a restocking fee is charged.
