Help, please

Hi,

I wonder if you could help me....

In November I bought three tickets to see the Killers, on ebay, at the time I thought everything was fine and paid the money across to the seller via paypal using a debit card. The ticket haven't arrived yet and the concert is on Sunday. I have tried contacting the seller to ask what is going on but as of yet I have not had anything back. I think i am over the 90 day period that ebay has to resolve disputes. I am really unsure what to do now.

I realise that had I used a credit card i would now be able to claim my money back for this purchase. However I have contacted my bank to explain the situation and they have advised me that i contact the Debit card dispute line to see if they could help.

Is there anything I can do?

Have you tried giving him a call? You can pull his details off ebay if you haven't already.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

This is really unfortunate, without knowing all the facts it sounds like you may have been scammed.

What is his feedback like? ..... can you advise of his ID... It won't relate you to him now as its been over 30 days so we won't know who you are!!
    :p:p Angel :p:p
  • This is the link to the item.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280048198858&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:12

and this is the link to his feedback page.

    http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=ron19680

i haven't left any feedback for the guy and there was no telephone number that i can see.

The dispute i opened with paypal has been deferred, and i don't think they are willing to do anything for me.

I have to wait until Sunday to open a dispute through my bank but even then i don't know if there is anything i can do.

I have been told by friends and family that i should report him to the police, but i really don't know what good that will do and if it is the right thing to do.

Thanks for your help on this

It says he's no longer registered with Ebay.. and his feedback isn't too great to say the least!

You can find out his contact info by going here: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQtZvbQQsofindtypeZ9

and filling in the relevant boxes.

    Good luck

He is no longer registered, looks like since beginning of December. So you cant leave feedback anyway.

The time limit to claim is 45 days for Paypal, or 60 days for Ebay so you are well over that.

Think trying the bank might be the only way

Unfortunatly theres no much to be done if you have been ripped off :(

This is why glastonbury have now bought out a photo policy where every ticket must be have a photo of the bearer on it to aviod touts.

I heard at one stage glastonbury tickets were being sold on ebay at £2000 - £3000!!

I was ripped off for 3 reading day tickets from the very dubious "getmetickets" to the value of £310. It was gut wrenching, we were messed around so much to the point we were standing waiting for a guy to deliver them to us at the gates. B£$&^%"S!!!! I had to watch the owner of the company on tv defending his company and his actions as if he was a normal honest business man, i felt sick! Bloomin MICHEAL RANGOS!!

I think the lesson to be learned is only to buy from authorised ticket vendors. This leaves such a messy grey area as eventually what will happen is that it will end up being illegal to sell on or trade any tickets you have bought for somewhere you now cant make but at the end of the day if it stops con men like michael rangos stealing peoples money then i'm all for it.

OOoh, sorry but I think you've been had. Terrible feedback mostly for non delivery and now suspended from ebay.

There has been a recent thread about the sale of tickets on ebay and you might want to find that and give it a quick read. Basically the seller was in breach of ebay rules for selling tickets he was unable to supply within 30 days, that might be why he was suspended. Never ever buy tickets that you can't have within a month, paypal only cover you for 45 days, ebay for 60 but then you lose the first £15 of any money reclaimed and if the auction was in breach I'm not sure they pay out anything anyway.

It is rare for your debit card to cover you, but there have been instances on here where people have managed to claim from a few select cards, but it is very very rare.

    Soo

  • I realise his feedback is bad now, but I checked when buying the tickets and it was ok then. Clearly I'm not the only person this guy has ripped off.

Ebay won't display his phone number for some reason, presumably because he is no longer registered.

The fact is that ebay and paypal shouldn't let people get away with this, there is no reason they can't stop it, the 60 day limits are a joke. Paypal have all of this guy's details since he must have registered a bank account and address and other contact information with them to setup the account and receive payments. The fact they won't do anything about it just shows how corrupt and money-grabbing ebay and paypal are; they don't care because they've got their money either way, whether someone gets screwed over or not. It's disgusting. Same goes for the bank - they know whom the payment was sent to and have all the account details so there is no reason why they can't follow it up. Again, it is simply lack of will.

The government needs to bring legislation in for this to protect people. This is fraud which carries a quite a hefty prison sentence, even for relatively small amounts of money. And clearly it's a massive crime because so many people have been affected, you only have to catch the odd episode of Watchdog to know this, it's an issue every few weeks!

There's no reason why ebay couldn't retain the buyer's money until ticket receipt has been confirmed by the buyer and then ebay could transfer teh funds to the seller. This way both seller and buyer are protected from scams.

Sorry, I know I'm just ranting, but as I'm sure you can understand, this is incredibly frustrating to say the least

    Thanks for the help/opinions/advice :)

Ebay does have rules about listings to prevent problems such as this. The listing you bid on would have been in contravention of these policies. See below:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/pre-sale.html

'The seller must guarantee that the item will be available for dispatch within 30 days from the date of purchase' - clearly not the case here. Unfortunately in the case of a listing selling tickets that far in advance, the best course of action by far is to walk away.

More info about ebay's tickets policy here:
